I was browsing the Internet to gather more information about the Miss Earth pageant for my research paper in our communication research class when I suddenly saw a site with photos of our very own Miriam Odemba during her stint at the pageant.
It is beyond doubt that the 25-year-old model who wore the sash of Tanzania and flew in to Manila, Philippines, to compete in the eighth edition of the Miss Earth pageant did a very good job and made us all proud.
Miriam may not have won the coveted crown—it went to her room mate and the hosting nation's bet, Karla Paula Henry—but placing second among 85 candidates is already a respectable feat that might be hard to equal or surpass in the years to come.
I hope not, as I have high hopes to our reigning Miss Tanzania Earth, Evelyn Almasi, also a sought after model here. As Evelyn goes to Manila next month to vie for the Miss Earth title, I wish her all the best of luck, and may she become the successor of Miriam's former room mate and best friend.
